Knauf ClimaFoam XPS Insulation

Knauf Climafoam XPS Board is a rigid extruded polystyrene (XPS) board, i.e. a polystyrene foam board which can be used in a wide variety of applications. This product is supplied with a ship-lap join down the long sides of each sheet. This is to allow for easier installation and to minimise gaps. Knauf ClimaFoam XPS Board delivers exceptional compressive strength for industrial and residential floors where a designer wants to keep the cold out but retain the strength in the concrete slab. Insulation under concrete floor slab is often desirable for commercial buildings such as warehouses and factories, which are being designed to withstand high loads from large vehicles or equipment and here Knauf ClimaFoam XPS Board has proven long-term performance. Installed in Concrete Floors as an Under Slab Insulation Product

Floors can offer excellent thermal performance by incorporating high levels of insulation. Concrete floors such as slab on ground can be designed to achieve excellent thermal performance. A well-insulated concrete slab will contribute to the building’s thermal envelope, save energy and help to reduce energy costs. ClimaFoam XPS Board has high compressive strength and moisture resistance, which makes it ideal for installation under the concrete slab to prevent thermal loss through the ground. Knauf Inslulation is available in a range of thicknesses and can be multi-layered to achieve high thermal resistance.The addition of perimeter insulation will complete the thermal envelope and provide a simple and effective method of improving the performance of the concrete floor. ClimaFoam XPS Board can be retrofitted to existing properties or installed before or after the concrete is poured in new build applications. ClimaFoam XPS Board should be installed as a continuous barrier around the slab edge and cover as much of the footing as possible. Earth can be backfilled directly against the insulation and the exposed surface should be protected with a plaster finish or a suitable sheet material. Under floor heating is a popular build consideration when using a concrete slab. Installing Knauf ClimaFoam XPS Board under the slab is ideal to ensure optimal performance of the heating and Building Code requirements are being met. This will also help to minimise heat loss and reduce energy costs.

Compression Resistance

ClimaFoam XPS Board is highly resistant to compression and withstands both occasional and long term static loads. The high compressive strength and rigidity of the boards allows a range of ballast materials including gravel, soil and concrete slabs to be used as part of the construction. Load bearing construction elements should be designed to adequately support the combination of imposed and dead loads without creating excessive deflection.

Handling and Storage

ClimaFoam XPS Board is easy to handle and install. Ensure the board product is not stored close to open flames or other ignition sources and avoid volatile organic compounds and chemicals such as solvents. ClimaFoam XPS Board should not be left exposed to prolonged sunlight as this will result in surface degradation. When outside storage for extended periods is required cover the products with opaque/light coloured sheeting.

ClimaFoam XPS Board is more than a simple lightweight insulant. The inherent mechanical strength of the range means that a building element or fabricated item using ClimaFoam XPS Board can withstand a wide range of loading situations. Whether subjected to standard domestic loads or heavy industrial loads, in floors, roofs or in panels, ClimaFoam XPS Board is the ideal solution. Many insulants will get wet in use or during installation. ClimaFoam XPS Board is almost 100% closed cell and as such is unaffected by moisture. Whether laying this product in a floor (where there is often some standing water) or in a protected membrane roof system (where the insulation is exposed to water) the user can be confident ClimaFoam XPS Board will perform as stated. The moisture resistance of ClimaFoam XPS Board allows for it to be exposed to ground water, with negligible impact on thermal performance. This board is also ideal for perimeter slab insulation and under-slab insulation where water resistance is important.

Versatile Concrete Insulation

The closed cell structure and density of Knauf ClimaFoam XPS Board allows specific edge details and surface finishes to be cut into the boards to make them as fit for the job as possible. Moreover, ClimaFoam XPS Boards can be cut into almost any shape using hot wires, saws or CNC technology to make it a highly versatile insulating and strengthening infill for any construction.
